An Eye on the Future

Future-oriented, progressive, and committed to regional and international partnerships – that’s the way the University of Osnabrück presents itself. The University was founded in 1973, and the first classes were held in 1974. Meanwhile, about ten thousand students are now registered in ten different Schools.
Special research projects, interdisciplinary programs and projects, and several graduate colleges not only provide research for use in industry and business – they are also part of the University’s research and teaching profile, and are proof of the high standards the University sets for itself.
The University owes its special flair to its successful integration within the City of Osnabrück. Unlike other universities founded at the same time, it was not conceived as an isolated campus university, but instead grew up within the City of Osnabrück, where a former nobleman’s palace became its headquarters.

Education That Fits the Times

International success in research, a multiplicity of modern programs, and many reforms, especially in teaching, are hallmarks of the University of Osnabrück. As a young university, it strives to meet the changing demands of education these days.
Successful, interdisciplinary research partnerships are elements of research programs at the University of Osnabrück. With innovative, interdisciplinary, and international study concepts such as European Studies, Information Engineering, or Cognitive Science, the University of Osnabrück has opened up new professional perspectives for its students, and prepares them in the best possible way for the job market.
The University has welcomed the Europeanization of the educational market by quickly introducing internationally recognized degrees. Numerous partnerships with international universities as well as with institutions outside the academic area support both internationalism and scientific exchange. Partnerships with regional institutions outside of academia ensure close relations with business and the transfer of scientific knowledge.
